Back to school means back to classrooms, cafeteria food and dum, dum, dum…HOMEWORK! I know that going back to school can also be pretty fun when you get to buy your new supplies, see old friends and start up those beloved school sports again. Now I know for some of you die hard sports fanatics you probably didn’t spend a whole lot of your summer playing your Wii because you were either out on the field or practicing. So when the time comes for conditioning, you’ll be ready. I was always the one who would lay by the pool all summer so when it came time to come back to my sport, man was I out of shape.
Anyway, we must do the dreaded back to school shuffle and learn to get back into the swing of things. All of here at Go Team are working our hineys off to bring you the most diverse coverage of local sports as we can. So if you know of an upcoming event you’d like us to cover send me an email at events@goteammagazine.com. We must also thank all of the advertisers that continue to stick by and support us each month. We are so very grateful for each and every one of them. I also want to thank all of our parents and athletes who continue to make Go Team such a success!
So what exactly makes a great athlete? The ability to play a sport as best as you can and doing your part to help out your team are both great characteristics for an athlete to have. Another quality of a great athlete is how he or she acts when they are off the court or field. Some would say that this is the most important trait of all. I know how bummed you can get after winning a big game and the defeated team won’t shake your hand or tell you congratulations. It doesn’t feel good. Anytime we do something we’re proud of we want others to take notice and be proud as well. This doesn’t always happen and the result is bitter. Instead of feeling good about your accomplishment you begin to feel bad because of another’s actions. Keep this in mind so the next time you see a fellow athlete doing a great job and remember to congratulate them. Always try to be positive and have a great attitude even if you’re unhappy that you’re not doing as well. The next time you do something great it will be nice to hear a kind word from others.
